This patient developed spontaneous rupture of her right breast saline implant approximately 10 years after the implant was originally placed.
Implant rupture rates tend to rise 10 years after your original surgery, particularly with earlier generation implants. When saline implants rupture, it is important to replace these as soon as possible. The implant deflates almost immediately and this can lead to contracture of the remaining capsule. If implants are not replaced in a timely fashion, this can lead to capsular contracture of the breast.
Her 500 CC saline implants were replaced with 615 CC extra high profile silicone gummy bear implants. Her results are shown at 1 month post op.
